Primary Accountabilities/Challenges
· Reviews and interprets local, state and federal regulations that apply to the facilities (currently one manufacturing site, one outlet store and one warehouse) and communicates requirements to the affected operation(s).
· Develops and implements occupational safety, health and environmental solutions that satisfy the needs of Soy Basics projects and which comply with applicable regulations.
· Leads, coordinates or participates with others in monitoring and controlling the organization’s operations in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and other applicable standards (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), etc.). Examples of tasks include: Implementing chemical exposure assessments and noise monitoring programs; Completing machine guarding and lockout/tagout assessments; Implementing fall protection and confined space programs; Managing SHE training records; Investigating incidents; Maintaining and updating MSDS; Obtaining and complying with environmental permits; Ensuring appropriate follow-up on external and internal audits; Controlling changes in the facility to maintain compliance with SHE programs.; Ensuring proper shipment of wastes and compliance with Freon regulations.
· Prepares and issues procedures to support compliance with regulatory requirements.
· Develops budget for estimating costs associated with training, PPE, monitoring equipment, consultants if/as needed, etc.
· Reviews SHE qualifications of contractors and develops and implements programs to ensure effective contractor safety programs
· Assists and provides guidance to employees, managers, SHE committee members and other personnel at the plant in a variety of SHE issues.
· Leads development and implementation of programs and recordkeeping systems to track and evaluate personnel injury and illness incidents.
· Conducts or coordinates audits, accident investigations and site inspections of operational procedures, facility design, equipment and materials.
· Develops and conducts, and assists others in developing and conducting, SHE training programs.
· Prepares documents to provide government agencies and project sponsors with information necessary for regulatory compliance.
· Maintains communications and contacts with personnel at all levels throughout Soy Basics and with government agencies, outside contractors and outside professional counterparts.
· Responds to site-wide emergencies in a professional and effective manner and assists management as the SHE subject matter expert in making correct and timely decisions.
· Serves as key SHE contact/company liaison between operations and regulatory officials for inspections, reports, permits
· Maintains knowledge of new methods and technology and recommends innovative solutions that could result in beneficial projects.
· Works with plant management to develop employee safety culture and improved, employee-driven, safety performance.
· Administers SC Johnson best practices and policies as appropriate in the Soy Basics plant. Serves as liaison from subsidiary to Corporate Headquarters.
Required Skills and Education:
· Successful implementation of compliance solutions in manufacturing settings. This requires a minimum of 2 to 5 years experience in interpreting regulations and applying those interpretations to manufacturing situations.
· Excellent analytical skills are required to extract factual information from complex scenarios.
· Excellent organizational and planning skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to convey complex regulatory requirements to production and upper level management personnel.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft software applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
· BS degree in a SHE technical field (e.g. Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health).
· Professional certification desired, but not required (e.g., CIH, CSP, CHMM, etc.). CIH or CSP are the most preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER: The successful candidate will evaluate,
plan, advise, and support mill environmental programs including air quality,
water quality, solid and hazardous waste in a manner that will ensure the mill
is in compliance with all state and federal environmental laws, regulations and
permit requirements, corporate policies and pollution prevention opportunities.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Promote safety programs that will ensure the safety and health of all personnel in areas of responsibility. Insure adherence to safe work practices, good housekeeping, follow up and correction of unsafe acts and conditions.
Provide strategic development support through planning for long term environmental compliance and improvement.
Work with engineering department and corporate environmental to review and complete environmental assessment section of capital investment cards to obtain all necessary environmental permits.
Evaluate mill compliance status and pollution control equipment performance/efficiency, and make recommendations for improvement.
Maintain understanding of current federal and state regulatory developments.
Manage all environmental permitting requirements for Biron, WI mill (water, air, storm water, hazardous waste storage/disposal, and spill, prevention, containment and countermeasures)
Manage environmental compliance programs and perform environmental compliance related reporting to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.
Work with operations to develop practical, cost effective solutions for environmental improvements.
Develop cost-effective compliance strategies for existing and emerging regulations that support business needs.
Manage record keeping and reporting activities to comply with federal and state environmental requirements, mill permit requirements, corporate policies, and meet all reporting deadlines.
Interact with outside regulatory agencies, union workers, management, and members of the public.
Develop and control annual operating and capital environmental budget.
Provide weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basis for the designated production department(s).
Maintain effective working relationships with supervision and personnel throughout the company.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of computer and automated control systems.
Utilize SAP for purchasing and maintenance functions.
Achieve Green Belt certification
and support LSS initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be knowledgeable of computer and automated process control systems.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or related field plus three years of mill environmental experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
